Does Turkey have a citizenship test? How naturalisation works

Last reviewed: October 15, 2026 · Checked against the official source linked on this page.

Through the general route, foreign nationals can usually apply for Turkish citizenship after five years of uninterrupted legal residence in Türkiye. Applicants must speak adequate Turkish, be of good character and be able to support themselves. There is no written citizenship test: applicants are interviewed by a commission that assesses their Turkish and their integration, and the Ministry of Interior makes the final decision. Separate routes exist, for example through marriage or investment.

This set is a civics practice quiz, not an official exam. It covers the institutions of the Republic, key events from the Ottoman era to the founding of the Republic, and Türkiye’s geography and national symbols.
