About All Citizenship Test

Is All Citizenship Test free?

Yes. All practice tests, mock exams, study pages and guides are free. You do not need an account.

Is All Citizenship Test an official government website?

No. All Citizenship Test is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with any government. We link to the official source for each country so you can check the latest rules.

Read who runs All Citizenship Test and how we check our content in the editorial policy.

Are these the exact questions from the real test?

For countries with an official test, our questions are written in the style of that test and based on the official study material. Where the government publishes its full question list (for example the United States) we aim to cover it completely; where it publishes only a handbook (for example the United Kingdom) our questions are written from it and are not the exact questions you will see. General civics quizzes for countries without an official test are for learning only. Always study the official material as well.

Which countries do you cover?

Every country: 178 country pages. The countries that run a citizenship knowledge test (the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Mexico, plus Sweden, Greece, Hungary, Taiwan, Kazakhstan and Luxembourg) have official-format practice tests or practice quizzes on the official content areas. Every other country has a requirements page explaining how naturalisation works and whether a knowledge test applies, with a short general civics quiz for learning.

Practice tests

What is the difference between Practice mode and Mock exam?

Practice mode shows the correct answer and an explanation after every question. Mock exam follows the real test format with a timer, and shows your answers only at the end.

What are weak questions?

Weak questions are the ones you answered incorrectly the last time you saw them. The Weak questions mode lets you practise only those until you get them right.

What pass mark do you use?

Each country uses its official pass mark, for example 75% for the Life in the UK Test and 60% for the US civics test. For the Dutch KNM exam, which has no published fixed pass mark, we use 70% as a practice target.

Why are some tests shown in English when the real test is in another language?

The German, French, Spanish and Dutch tests are taken in the local language. We show questions in English so you can understand the content, and link to the official material so you can learn the official wording.

Which websites offer citizenship test questions and answers?

For the exact official questions, use the government’s own list where one exists: USCIS publishes the 128 US civics questions with answers, Germany’s BAMF publishes all 310 Einbürgerungstest questions, and Spain’s Instituto Cervantes publishes the 300 CCSE questions. The UK, Canada and Australia publish only a study guide, not the questions.

All Citizenship Test has free question-and-answer pages for each official test, for example the US citizenship test questions and answers and the Life in the UK questions and answers. Questions are grouped by official topic, and each answer comes with an explanation.

Are free citizenship practice tests similar to the real exam?

Good practice tests copy the real format: the number of questions, the time limit, the pass mark and the topics. For example, a Life in the UK mock has 24 questions in 45 minutes with 18 needed to pass.

Where the government publishes its question bank (the US, Germany and Spain), practice questions can match the real ones. Where it publishes only a handbook (the UK, Canada and Australia), no website has the exact questions, and any site that claims to is guessing. Treat practice tests as a check on what you have learned from the official guide, not as a replacement for it.

Where can I find citizenship test questions with multiple-choice answers?

Every practice test on All Citizenship Test is multiple choice with one correct answer, and each answer has an explanation. The real tests in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain and France are multiple choice too.

The US civics test is different. A USCIS officer asks the questions out loud and you answer in your own words, so use multiple choice to learn the answers, then practise saying them aloud. See which citizenship tests are multiple choice.

Can I practice citizenship test questions by topic?

Yes. Each country’s questions-and-answers page groups the questions by the official topics: for example American government, American history and symbols for the US, or the handbook chapters for the UK. Each topic has a “Practise only” button that starts a quiz on that topic alone.

After a quiz, your score by topic shows where you are weak, and the Weak questions mode lets you redo only the questions you got wrong.

Is there a citizenship test with instant results and explanations?

Yes. In practice mode you see straight away whether your answer is right, with the correct answer and a short explanation.

In mock exam mode the results come at the end, as in the real test: your score, pass or fail against the official pass mark, a score for each topic and a review of every question with explanations.

Can I take unlimited citizenship practice tests online?

Yes. There is no limit on All Citizenship Test. Questions are shuffled for each attempt, so you can retake practice quizzes and mock exams as often as you like.

Most people are ready once they consistently score well above the pass mark in timed mock exams, for example 21 or more out of 24 for the Life in the UK Test.

Where can I download citizenship test study guides for free?

Most governments publish their study guide free: the US civics questions and study materials on uscis.gov, Discover Canada (PDF, eBook and audio) from IRCC, Our Common Bond from Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, the Einbürgerungstest catalogue from Germany’s BAMF and the CCSE manual from Instituto Cervantes. The UK handbook Life in the United Kingdom is the exception: it is sold, not free.

Every country page on our site links to the official guide. Each question list has a “Print or save as PDF” button, so you can study offline.

How long should I study for a citizenship test?

Most people need two to six weeks of regular study: about 30–60 minutes a day with the official guide, then a few timed mock exams in the final week. It takes longer if the test is not in your first language. Our guide how long to study for a citizenship test has timelines by test, and the 30-day study plan gives a day-by-day schedule.

What happens if I fail a citizenship test?

In most countries you can retake it. The US gives a second attempt at a re-examination within about 60–90 days. In the UK you can rebook after 7 days and pay again. Canada and Australia offer further attempts or an interview. Germany and Spain allow repeated attempts. See retake rules by country.
