Last reviewed: October 15, 2026 · Checked against the official source linked on this page.
Tunisian nationality is governed by the Nationality Code of 1963. Naturalisation is granted by decree to an adult foreigner who has habitually resided in Tunisia for the five years before applying, with some exceptions. The Code also requires sufficient knowledge of Arabic, sound mental and physical health, and good conduct with no prison sentence of more than one year for an ordinary offence. Applications go to the Ministry of Justice nationality department, a regional court or a Tunisian consulate. We have not found any official citizenship knowledge test.
