Adult foreign nationals and stateless people can usually apply for citizenship of Tajikistan after five years of continuous residence, counted from when their residence permit was issued. They must know the state language, Tajik, well enough for everyday communication and must not be facing criminal prosecution. Some groups can apply after a shorter period or under a simplified procedure. There is no published civics knowledge test.
