Does Somalia have a citizenship test? How naturalisation works
Last reviewed: October 15, 2026 · Checked against the official source linked on this page.
Somali citizenship is governed by the Somali Citizenship Law (Law No. 28 of 1962). On paper, an adult can apply after at least seven years of residence in Somalia, must be of good civil and moral conduct, declare willingness to renounce any other citizenship and swear an oath of allegiance, with citizenship granted by presidential decree. However, reports from 2018 indicate that there was no working procedure or office for naturalisation in practice. We have not found any official citizenship knowledge test, and current public information is scarce.
This is a civics practice quiz, not an official exam. It covers Somalia’s government, history, geography and culture using stable, well-established facts. Always confirm the current rules with Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency or a Somali embassy before applying.
