Citizenship of Saint Lucia can be acquired by birth, descent, registration (for example by spouses and some Commonwealth citizens) or naturalisation under the Citizenship of Saint Lucia Act. Naturalisation is at the discretion of the Minister responsible for immigration, who considers long residence, good character, the intention to live in Saint Lucia and knowledge of English. The application form asks for a police certificate of character and references, and approved applicants take an oath of allegiance. There is no published official citizenship knowledge test. Saint Lucia also runs a separate citizenship by investment programme with its own rules.
