Does Liechtenstein have a citizenship test? How naturalisation works

Last reviewed: October 15, 2026 · Checked against the official source linked on this page.

Liechtenstein has two main routes to citizenship: ordinary naturalisation after 10 years of residence, decided by a vote of the residents of the municipality, and facilitated naturalisation, for example after 30 years of residence (years lived before age 20 count double) or after marriage to a Liechtenstein citizen. Applicants must prove their German language skills, usually renounce their previous nationality, and pass the official civics test: 27 multiple-choice questions drawn from a pool of 200, with at least 18 correct answers needed.

This set is a civics practice quiz, not the official test, and uses a shorter format. It covers Liechtenstein’s institutions, history, geography and national symbols. The Immigration and Passport Office publishes an official study manual and test dates, so always check its website for current details.
