How to prepare

  1. Book a recognised B1 Italian exam such as CILS, CELI, Cert.It or PLIDA early, as you need the certificate before you apply.

  2. Practise everyday Italian for appointments at the prefecture or consulate, where documents and questions will be in Italian.

  3. Learn the basics of the Italian Constitution, including the rights and duties of citizens, as you will swear loyalty to it when you become a citizen.

  4. Keep copies of residence and income records, because naturalisation by residence looks closely at your legal residence history.
