Guatemalan nationality by naturalisation is governed by the Constitution and the Nationality Law (Decree 1613). Applicants usually need five years of residence, or two years in some cases such as Central American, Spanish or Ibero-American nationals, plus good conduct and a lawful means of living. The application starts at the departmental government office, and the law provides for an examination in Spanish and in basic history, geography and the Constitution. There is no published standard question bank or test format.
