Does Fiji have a citizenship test? How naturalisation works
Last reviewed: October 15, 2026 · Checked against the official source linked on this page.
Foreign nationals can apply for Fijian citizenship by registration under the Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009, which is handled by the Ministry of Immigration. Applicants need a qualifying period of lawful residence in Fiji on a valid permit or exemption; time spent as a visitor or on a student permit does not count. The Ministry asks applicants to first request a search of their immigration status to confirm their time in Fiji and which category they may qualify under. We have not found a published citizenship knowledge test. Fiji has permitted dual citizenship since 2009.
