Questions about countries

Which countries have an official citizenship test?

About twenty. Fifteen countries run an official citizenship knowledge test with a published format: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Mexico. Sweden (since June 2026), Greece, Hungary, Taiwan, Kazakhstan and Luxembourg also run formal tests whose full question bank is not public. For all of these we offer practice tests in the official format or practice quizzes on the official content areas.

Every other country has a requirements page explaining how naturalisation works and whether any knowledge test applies, with a short general civics quiz for learning. These quizzes are clearly labelled and are not official exams.

Which test should I take if I’m applying for permanent residence?

In the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands, the same knowledge test is also required for some residence permits. Each country page explains who must take the test.

Is a general civics quiz the same as a practice test?

No. Practice tests exist only for countries with an official knowledge test, and they follow that test’s official format. A general civics quiz covers a country’s geography, history and institutions for learning and is not linked to any official process. Every page says which one it is.

How can I find citizenship test preparation resources for my country?

Search for your country on this page. Each country page answers three things: whether there is an official citizenship test, what format it has and who must take it, and where the official rules and study guide are.

Countries with an official test have practice quizzes, timed mock exams, flashcards and a full question list. Other countries have a requirements summary and a general civics quiz. Always confirm details with the official source linked on the page, because rules change.

Can I prepare for citizenship tests in different countries on one website?

Yes. All Citizenship Test covers every country on one site, with the same tools for each official test: practice mode, timed mock exams, weak-question review, flashcards and question lists.

Your progress is saved separately for each country in your browser, so you can study two tests side by side, for example if you are choosing where to settle. The My Progress page shows all your scores in one place.

Is there a free website with citizenship tests for 100 or more countries?

Yes. All Citizenship Test has free pages for 178 countries. About twenty countries run a formal citizenship knowledge test, and each of those has an official-format practice test or a practice quiz on its official content areas.

The other countries have no published knowledge test. Their pages explain how naturalisation works there (residence, language, character, oath) and include a general civics quiz for learning. Each page is labelled so you know which kind it is.
